TheChlorideAssaykitprovidesasimpleanddirectprocedureformeasuringchlorideinavarietyofsamples,includingbloodandurine.ChlorideconcentrationisdeterminedbyacompetitionreactionbetweenHg²⁺andFe²⁺for2,4,6-Tris(2-pyridyl)-s-triazine(TPTZ).ThepreferredHg-TPTZcomplexexhibitsnocolor.Inthepresenceofchloride,Hg²⁺formsHgCl₂,whichprecipitates,allowingTPTZtocomplexwithFe²⁺.TheFe-TPTZcomplexresultsinacolorimetric(620nm)productproportionaltothechloridepresent.
