TSKgelAlphacolumnsarecomposedofspherical,hydrophilicmethacrylatebeads.UnlikeTSKgelPW-typecolumns,whicharestableatmosttoa50%organicmixedwithwater,TSKgelAlpha-typecolumnsarestableinawidevarietyoforganicsolventsatconcentrationsupto100%.ThemainapplicationareaforTSKgelAlphacolumnsistheanalysisofpolymersthataresolubleinpolarorganicsolvents.Examplesincludecellulosederivatives,polyimide,andsodiumdodecylsulfate(allinDMFwith10mmol/LDMF),cleansinggelinmethanol,anddegreeofsaponificationofpolyvinylalcoholinHFIP.Themixed-bedcolumn,TSKgelAlpha-M,hasanextendedlinearcalibrationrange,andissuitableforsampleswithabroadMWdistributionaswellassampleswithunknownmolecularweight.
TSKgelAlpha-6000columnsarepackedwithrigid,porous,polymerbeadswhichshowminimalshrinkageorswellingindifferentsolventsystems.Theyarebestusedfortheseparationofpolymersthataresolubleinpolarorganicsolventssuchasmethanol,ethanol,DMF,THF,HFIP,DMSO,2-propanol,andacetonitrile.
