PTFE-facedseptaaredesignedforapplicationswheregreaterinertnessisrequired.Theoff-whitesiliconerubberbody(123milthick)providesplentyofsupportfortheyellowPTFEface(2milthick).AfterthePTFEisrupturedduringinjection,somebleedingmayoccur.Becausethisbleedincreasesasmoreoftherubberisexposed,werecommendusinganeedleguidetoreducethesizeofthepuncturedarea.Forusewith200°Cto300°Cinlettemperatures.
PTFE-fusedseptaaresuitabletoovercomethedegradationduetoprolongedhightemperatureswhichoccursinsiliconerubbersepta.Thedegradationresultsinbaselinedriftandadditionalpeaks.ItisgenerallyfixedwiththePTFEfacetowardsthecolumnpacking.
Application
GlassvialsequippedwithstirbarsmaybesealedwithPTFEfacedsiliconeseptaforsolventdropmicroextractionanalysisofwatersamples.Thismaybeusedinsealingthevialsusedforheadspacesolid-phasemicroextraction(HS-SPME)procedureduringdeterminationofaldehydesindrinkingwater.
