Preparation Note
This standard consists of a 2 mL flame-sealed ampule containing the Volatiles in Soil concentrate and a 30 mL ampule containing approximately 30 grams of Matrix soil. The solvent for the Volatiles in Soil concentrate is Methanol. This standard may not contain all of the compounds listed on the Data Reporting Forms. The evaluation of results will be based on study statistics as required by NELAC standards. This standard may not contain all of the compounds listed on the Report Forms in accordance with NELAC standards. For analytes not detected report as zero “0” or a “<” and your detection limit. This PT sample is intended for methods USEPA SW846 Method 8240 and 8260 using purge and trap extraction (EPA 5035).
Sample Preparation
The sample is to be extracted using the solid waste method for sediment/soil using purge and trap.
Weigh 5.0 grams of the Volatiles in Soil Matrix into a sparger cell. Carefully snap the top off of the Volatiles in Soil ampule.
Using a twenty five-microliter syringe, inject 20 μL of the concentrate into the matrix by placing the syringe tip slightly below the surface of the matrix in the sparger cell.
Immediately complete other sample preparation steps such as adding water to the sparger cell and closing the apparatus according to your analytical procedures. Complete the analysis per your normal procedures.
On the provided report form provides all of the requested information; note that the results of the analysis are to be reported on a wet weight basis.
In addition to all requested information, describe any unusual problems encountered in the extraction or analysis of the sample on the report form. The method used must be reported. If multiple methods are used for preparation and/or analysis, a separate report form must be used for each preparation and analysis method. Report on a wet weight basis; do not correct results for moisture content.
